EUROJUST Executive Board (EB) adopted the Guiding Principles for Legal Assistance to Refugees in Developing Countries on 15 September 2016.
EUROJUST is a member of the INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGENDA (ICOA) of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Both organisations cooperate closely on such issues as migration and asylum. EUROJUST and UNHCR have been working together in the field of legal assistance to refugees and migrants since 2001 and have developed a close relationship. The GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO REFUGEES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES was drawn up in close cooperation between EUROJUST and UNHCR and aims to ensure that refugees have the same level of access to legal assistance and protection services as nationals of a developed country. EUROJUST also works with the IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE FUND.
EUROJUST and UNHCR have also been actively engaged in establishing legal assistance to refugees through the ILA-ALLIANCE, a Brussels-based NGO, of which EUROJUST is a member. The GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO REFUGEES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES now form part of the new Memorandum of Understanding.
